Sunday marked the first ever televised tribute to black women ever. BET and Black Girls Rock! founder Beverly Bond have partnered up to celebrate some of our sheroes, moguls, icons, and living legends, to acknowledge them for their hard work, dedication, and for being a black girl who rocks.
There were some touching moments for:
1. Watching Raven Symone get her award.
2. Monica sing “I’m Still Standing” goes without saying, she gives me goosebumps when she sangs. And I swear she’s singing just to me! LOL.
3. Free presenting the “Shot Caller” Award to Teresa Clarke, founder of Africa.com, for her efforts to change the way the world views Africa. Inspires me to be a shot caller too, again.
4. Watching Keke Palmer get her “Who Got Next” Award. She is everything young Hollywood should embody; she’s having fun, has a beaitiful spirit and takes her craft seriously.
5. The flawless Lynn Whitfield give the legendary Ruby Dee her award.
More performances were a must see especially the Nina Simone version of “4 Women” with Jill Scott, Kelly Price, Ledisi, and Marsha Ambrosius.
You don’t have to be a celebrity to do something special or be a part of something special. There’s nothing you can’t do!
