Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz are giving back…the couple have adopted a village in Soweto, South Africa.

In an interview with VladTV.com, Swizz explained, “We adopted…Suweto. We went there…just to film the process of a particular lady and her daughter. She’s a beautiful lady with a beautiful spirit. She’s HIV positive. We were filming the before-and-after effect of taking [certain] medications.”

The couple set up a meeting with the local government, which granted them approval to purchase containers, ultimately allowing residents access to heat and hot water. They have also started an education program for the men in Soweto in hopes that it will help them get jobs and build their village. Of the Soweto people, Beatz added, “Instead of being mad, disgruntled, ignorant [about their economic disadvantages], their vibe was like, super-Zen.”

There was no yacht or over-the-top festivities – just family and close friends as Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz tied the knot in a private ceremony Saturday in a private home on the Mediterranean Sea.

The bride wore a Grecian-inspired Vera Wang dress and carried a bouquet of purple calla lilies. The groom was decked out in a Tom Ford tuxedo. The couple's friend Dr. Deepak Chopra presided over the nuptials.

The couple, who are also expecting their first child together, have been together since fall 2008. They announced their engagement and baby news in May.

It's the first marriage for Keys, 29, and the couple's first child together. While the newlyweds don't know the gender of their baby, Beatz (real name: Kasseem Dean, 31) says the addition of a child will be nothing short of magical.

"Whatever we're blessed with, that baby is being born to blessed parents," he recently told PEOPLE. "Alicia is definitely one of those great parents-to-be. She's super ready. Super glowing. Super happy."
