As previously reported, Mario was arrested late last week after his mother called the police on him for allegedly pushing her and damaging property in the apartment they shared together. A statement released by his lawyer, Hassan Murphy, gave some insight into what occurred between Mario and his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, that day.

“This is an unfortunate incident between a loving son and a mother who continues to struggle with a devastating addiction. Anyone who has waged the battle to save loved ones from the forces of drugs knows the irrational behavior that almost always accompanies their actions. Despite the allegations, Mario remains committed to supporting his mother.”

We suspected that the fight was over her heroin addiction – something Mario tried to put an end to back in 2007 when he appeared on the MTV documentary special “I Won’t Love You To Death” in which he had cameras follow his attempt at an intervention.

Mario’s lawyer, Hassan Murphy, has confirmed our suspicions. He released a statement on

R&B singer Mario was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with one count of second-degree assault after an incident with his mother. It is being reported that Mario’s mother called the police on him after he supposedly pushed her and destroyed property in the apartment they share. He was held on $50,000 bond and released after posting bail.

The police statement of probable cause follows:

At 12:53 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of Fells St for a call for a “mental case breaking up property” inside an apartment. Officers met Hardaway in the front lobby — she was crying and appeared very upset, officers wrote. She said Mario was “throwing and damaging property” in the apartment they share, and had pushed her using his hands and forearms, causing minor pain. When police went up to the apartment, they found a damaged china cabinet and the floor littered with broken glass. A mirror was broken, and there was a large hole in a closet door.
