Wyclef Jeam is apparently contemplating running for presidential election of his homeland Haiti.

The nation, which was struck with disaster when a earthquake hit last year, is very close to the musician's heart. He has been relentlessly campaigning to raise money and aid for the nation since the natural disaster struck.

Jean, who was born in Haiti, is now considering whether he should run for the five-year term as the country's president. There have been many rumours circulating his interest in the position after he was appointed ambassador-at-large by President Rene Preval in 2007.

The former Fugees family have made statement which read: "Wyclef's commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward…"

They also added: "If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately."
