Most fans knew she had gospel music roots but we were unaware there was recorded gospel music from the legend until we recently came across a few clips of the Iconic Tina Turner singing classic gospel hymns. The clips are from a 1973 recording Tina did with her then husband Ike Turner.
Some of the songs on the recording which was recently repackaged and re-released by EMI Records feature solos by Tina, others feature solos by Ike and still others are performed as a duet by the troubled couple.
Visit www.amazon.com to purchase the project which features gospel staples like “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”, “Farther Along”, “Walk With Me”, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”, “Precious Lord”, “When the Saints Go Marching In”, “Amazing Grace”, “Nearer the Cross”, “Glory, Glory”, and “The Lord Will Make a Way Somehow”
As Tina proclaimed in their cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary” they never did anything nice and easy. This motto applies to their cover of these gospel songs as well. The songs feature the signature Ike and Tina sound without compromising the integrity of the hymns.
