Nike Hires First Female Air Jordan Designer: Meet Vashtie Kola

Vashtie Kola, an accomplished fashion designer, video director and artist, recently earned another title: first female designer of Nike’s Air Jordans.

The New York-based creative visionary put a fresh twist on the classic Air Jordan 2.

This limited-edition shoe brings a lavender and deep-purple colorway to deliver a more feminine style. The details didn’t go overlooked either, with hints of silver integrated into the laces to complement the metallic midsole.

Keep an eye out for its release on October 2nd, and stay tuned over the next few weeks for an inside look at the Holiday 2010 Girls Collection.

Other than being Pharrell’s ex-girlfriend (they dated for 5 years) and styling/modeling for his Billionaire Boys Club clothing line, Kola wrote the treatment for Common’s “Testify” video, served as the Director of Creative Services for Island Def Jam, and directed Solange’s “T.O.N.Y.” video.

In 2008, after many years of deliberation, Kola finally launched her signature brand VIOLETTE.
